Janine Phanariotis has over 20 years’ experience in education and educational leadership, with a career spanning Europe, South East Asia and the Middle East. UK-trained, she qualified as a teacher in Birmingham, England, and spent eight years teaching and leading in Andalucía, Spain, before later working with the Ministry of Education in Brunei on a major educational reform project.

She holds a master’s degree in Project Management, alongside degrees in Education, Human Resources Management, and Effective Coaching and Mentoring. As both Head of School and a parent of two daughters in the school, Janine’s commitment to the community is deeply personal. She is excited to build confidently on the school’s strong foundations, enhance the experience and opportunities offered to every student, and lead the school forward through thoughtful innovation and continuous improvement on its journey towards becoming an ISP Mastering School.

Her vision is to create a school where every child feels known, challenged and supported to thrive, and where excellence is not a destination but a shared, continually evolving pursuit.

Dawn Sheridan is an experienced British education leader and currently serves as Head of Primary and Infants at the British School of Vila-real (BSVR), part of the International Schools Partnership (ISP). She provides strategic and operational leadership across the primary phase, working closely with staff to ensure consistently high standards of teaching, learning, and pupil wellbeing.

With a strong background in British and international education, Dawn is committed to delivering a rich and engaging curriculum aligned with the English National Curriculum, while embedding ISP’s focus on developing lifelong learners. She places particular emphasis on nurturing key skills such as resilience, independence, critical thinking, collaboration, and emotional intelligence, ensuring pupils are well prepared both academically and personally.

Dawn is recognised for her collaborative and reflective leadership style, supporting professional development and fostering a positive school culture where staff feel valued and empowered. She works in close partnership with families and the wider school community to create a safe, inclusive, and aspirational learning environment in which every child is encouraged to thrive.

Olin Romer holds a degree in Environmental Science, a PGCE in Geography, and a Master’s Degree in TESOL. He has been working in education since 2012 and has held a variety of leadership roles across Ireland, Hungary, England, and Spain.

With a subject background in Geography and History, Olin specialises at A Level in Geography, Travel and Tourism, Environmental Science, and Geology. His work as an examiner across multiple specifications gives him a strong understanding of assessment and academic standards.

He is also passionate about learning beyond the classroom and has led a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award, international exchanges, and residential trips.

Lorena Arrufat de Líbano is currently the Head of the Spanish Department at BSVR. She has been part of the school since 2005, having previously developed her professional career in Manchester, where she worked for seven years.

She began this stage of her career at Manchester Metropolitan University, teaching Spanish to both foreign language students and trainee teachers. She later joined Bury College, where she taught A-Level and GCSE students and also held the position of Head of the Spanish Department.

Following this international experience, she returned to Castellón and worked for two years at Nuestra Señora de la Consolación School. Since then, she has continued her professional career at BSVR, where she now has over twenty years of teaching experience.

David Sánchez holds a degree in Psychology from Universitat Jaume I in Castellón. After training in various areas of educational and psycho-pedagogical support, he began his professional career at BSVR in 2006 as the school psychologist. In 2014, he took on additional responsibilities by assuming the role of Technical Director, a dual position he continues to hold to this day.

Passionate about continuous learning, his work focuses on educational support, vocational guidance, and comprehensive counselling for families, teachers, and students. Throughout his career, he has designed and implemented programmes and strategies aimed at promoting emotional wellbeing and academic achievement within the school community, contributing to the personal and academic development of each student.

A father of two children aged 9 and 11, both students at the school, David is deeply proud to be part of the BSVR educational family and maintains a strong connection with a community built on collaboration, respect, and the active involvement of students, staff, families, and personnel, fostering a safe, supportive, and motivating environment.

Marta Martínez is the school psychologist and head of the safeguarding team. She supports students in their emotional well-being and in any challenges they may face in their learning, working closely with families and teaching staff.

Her background in Psychology is complemented by master’s degrees in learning difficulties, communication disorders, and family intervention and mediation, as well as studies in Early Childhood Education, enabling her to provide comprehensive support tailored to each student’s individual needs.

Luisa Gual has been part of the school’s safeguarding team since its foundation, dedicating her career to protecting the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of the entire school community. Her primary focus is on children and adolescents, ensuring that everyone has the right to grow up in a safe environment, free from violence, abuse, or neglect.

Through her experience, Luisa promotes the importance of safeguarding not only for students but also for staff, fostering a culture of awareness and respect that is increasingly valued within the school community.
